I am a 38-year-old, single, working mom with two spirited children. I work two jobs, and like many women, I struggle to keep both my health and sanity in check. And, I’m also the Nurse Practitioner at BH2. I have decided that I am going to share my experience with life, bio-identical hormone therapy, neurotransmitter optimization, and weight loss with those of you interested in following how it goes.
After years of fighting my ever growing waistline, chronic depression, and the general stress of life, I am finally going to tackle my problems the same way that I have recommended my patients tackle them, by optimizing their mental and physical health. What can I say? Nurses and doctors are some of the worst patients out there J. But, I’m finally willing to admit that I can’t fix it without help this time. I’m 20 lbs over weight (despite having a lap band for three years), I have insomnia, and I wish I had the energy to even walk to the mailbox and check the mail at the end of the day. This is my closest attempt at “exercise.”
I started the detox program last Thursday with our BH2 OptiCleanse shake mix. The first two days were pretty rough: lots of fatigue and general achiness. But, after that, my body seemed to adjust. I’m drinking the shake (made with vanilla almond milk, frozen fruit, xylitol or stevia) each morning as breakfast. I have been quite surprised at how it fills me up, and it doesn’t taste too bad either. I’m picky about my protein shakes!
I’ll do my initial lab work tomorrow, including the new neurotransmitter urine test. I have a long-term history of chronic depression and low energy levels. The lab results should be back next week, and we will determine my supplement and hormone needs at that point.
I will admit that the detox phase seems to be making me more moody than usual, and I’m craving salt. Not sure what that is all about yet, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
